2020. We all welcomed the year with so much hope, not knowing what lies ahead of us. It all started on January 30, when the 1st confirmed human transmission was recorded. A 38-year-old female from Wuhan, China tagged as Patient 1. Not long after that another one was reported and confirmed. A 44-year-old Male also from Wuhan, named as Patient 2. Patient 1 condition eventually got better and was discharged from San Lazaro Hospital. But that isn't the case with Patient 2. His symptoms however worsened and succumbed to Cardiac Arrest as the result of Corona Virus on February 1, making him the first recorded death outside of China.

Since then the local transmission of the Philippines started to blow up and we are now at 331,869 cases and 6,069 deaths. Making us at Rank 20 for worldwide and Rank 1 in Asia despite being on quarantine for 206 days. What seems to be the reason why we keep on having a lot of cases daily? According to Rapler.com it's because of the increased contact and mobility, forgetting to observe health standards, sustained community transmission and increased testing. And since the easing of quarantine protocols and guidelines, we'll expect for the numbers to still rise.
Now, what should we do to not be part of the growing numbers of Coronavirus cases? According to who.int, here are some basic measures we can do to protect ourselves :
Protect yourself and others by making these 6 simple precautions your new habits:
Clean your hands often
Cough or sneeze in your bent elbow - not your hands!
Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
Limit social gatherings and time spent in crowded places
Avoid close contact with someone who is sick
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces

Let's all work hand in hand to fight and win against the Coronavirus. Always watch news reports about the current situation. Be always ready. Have the basic food supplies just in case there will be localized lockdowns. Don't go out if it's not important. As much as possible avoid physical contact with your family members, specially if you're always outside. Remember to always bring alcohol and sanitizer when going out. It is also mandatory now to have a faceshield when riding public transportations. As Christmas is near, and another year is approaching, let us all pray that our land and the whole world be healed from all the heartaches that we had this year. May we all stay healthy and safe.
